Two unresolved skylines: straight down Bernard Street from the old Customs House at Commercial Street, and a vista taking in the Castle from Calton Hill. It all hinges on the aerial perspective of the skies. The static masses of the buildings don't register convincingly enough until there's a convincing depth above them. For this reason I'm experimenting at the moment with monochrome pieces in which there's an emphasis on tonal values alone. Hope to show those in later posts.

A study of the Malmaison hotel near Leith Shore which was recently on show at...the Malmaison, and then last weekend at Coburg House. Some tweaking of perspective and taking of liberties with the background to produce a stark, dramatic effect.
