Got the basic sky tones blocked in and added to the silhouettes a layer of alizarin crimson. This warms and unifies the whole thing but there's still a good deal of tonal detail to be worked out in the buildings. The poor photography doesn't help to illustrate how this might go, but more on that tomorrow.

Underpainting
This is the first blocking-in of a new piece: a view from Leith Street towards the eastern end of Princes Street. The silhouetting has been done with pthalo blue and an admixture of vermilion. Should be effective for layering up nuances of tone later on.
A bit about Edinvision
EDINVISION
As some nameless wag said long ago “ Writing about painting is like dancing about architecture”
I don’t quite know how to fully explain or describe what inspires or drives me to portray Edinburgh. Perhaps it is because Edinburgh is the place I have felt most at home and with passing years this city’s character and qualities become increasingly more impressive to me. I find the city’s multi-levelled topography, skylines and ever-varying light conditions continually fascinating. So many dramatic and atmospheric vistas are on offer it would be impossible to exhaust even a fraction of them.
All the same my project is to explore as many as possible. This is all part of the on-going fascination with this spectacular European capital.
The layered diversity of architecture distributed across Edinburgh makes it the celebrated landmark it is while expressing its deep history and stages of development. Capturing this vivid essence and maintaining a sense of timelessness will continue to be a consuming passion in my artwork.

Exhibition in August at Coburg House Studios Edinburgh
Here a few selected images from my last exhibition. I was very pleased and encouraged the kind comments of the visitors, buyers and fellow artists. Thankyou!
There are still a few left for sale (minus gallery commission, so bargains to be had!!!) These paintings are framed with wide black frames and a thin gold slip. Please feel free to contact me on gbeare@hotmail.co.uk for prices, to arrange a private viewing etc. Alternatively you can call me on 07967283066.
I am willing to take commissions if there are any particular vistas in Edinburgh, or indeed anywhere in Scotland, that have an emotional resonance for you.
